The \"<strong>Hunting, wildlife management, and conservation in the insular Caribbean<\/strong>\" symposium aims to assess the challenges and opportunities related to the sustainable management of huntable species and to foster constructive collaboration between hunters, scientists, and conservation stakeholders.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #e95b2b;\"><strong>Description and program<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Presentation-symposium-Chasse-et-conservation-dans-la-Caraibe.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&gt;&gt; Download the symposium description (PDF in French)<\/a><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #e95b2b;\"><strong>Date and venue<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>This symposium is part of the Caribaea <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/en\/outreach\/conferences\/conference-2025\/\"><em>Initiative Research &amp; Conservation Conference<\/em><\/a> and will take place at the <strong>Karibea Sainte Luce Hotel, Martinique<\/strong>, on <strong>June 12, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #e95b2b;\"><strong>Participants<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>The symposium is open to all registered conference attendees. It will bring together researchers and students, wildlife managers, members of hunting federations, representatives of various international NGOs, and other stakeholders involved in the conservation of Caribbean biodiversity.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #e95b2b;\"><strong>Program<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>The symposium will be held over a full day and will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General overviews and more specific presentations on the issues related to hunting and conservation in the insular Caribbean<\/li>\n<li>A round table discussion allowing direct exchange between various stakeholders<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #e95b2b;\"><strong>Keynote speakers<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dr. Howard Nelson<\/strong> (Fauna and Flora International, University of Cambridge): \"Pathways to sustainable hunting in the insular Caribbean\"<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Erica Von Essen<\/strong> (Stockholm University): \"Killing for conservation: Reconciling hunting with biodiversity agendas\"<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Roger Pradel<\/strong> (CEFE CNRS, Montpellier): \"Monitoring harvested populations\"<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #e95b2b;\"><strong>Language<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>The symposium will be conducted in English. Simultaneous English-French interpretation will be available throughout the event.<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #e95b2b;\"><strong>Registration and call for abstracts<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Registration for the symposium is included for all participants registered for the conference (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/en\/outreach\/conferences\/conference-2025\/\">see dedicated conference page<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>It is also possible to register for the symposium only at a rate of <strong>\u20ac150<\/strong> (reduced rate of <strong>\u20ac100<\/strong> for members of the Hunting Federations of Martinique and Guadeloupe). Please contact us before June 6th at: <a href=\"mailto:conference2025@caribaea.org\">conference2025[at]caribaea.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Those interested in presenting at the symposium can submit a proposal using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Caribaea_Initiative_Conference2025_Abstract_Submission_form.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the downloadable form available here<\/a>. Please ensure that all submission guidelines are followed and send the completed form to <a href=\"mailto:conference2025@caribaea.org\">conference2025[at]caribaea.org<\/a>. The deadline for oral presentation submissions is April 22, 2025, while poster proposals can be submitted until May 31, 2025.
