Since 2016, Caribaea Initiative has regularly organized scientific and training events bringing together students, researchers, protected-area managers, and conservation stakeholders working on wildlife in the insular Caribbean.<\/p>\n

These events mainly take two forms: international conferences<\/strong>, which may include thematic symposia, and capacity-building workshops<\/strong>, aimed in particular at Caribbean master\u2019s and PhD students as well as early-career researchers from the region. They aim to foster scientific exchange, experience sharing, regional cooperation, and the development of local expertise in the study, protection, and management of Caribbean animal biodiversity.<\/p>\n

During these events, Caribaea Initiative may award prizes to recognize the work presented by students and early-career researchers. The Dawn AT Phillip Award<\/strong> is given to the best student oral presentation during international conferences. Previous awardees: Rachel Batista-Alvarez (2018), Christopher Cambrone (2019), and Carla Ivette Rivera-P\u00e9rez (2025). The Best Poster Award<\/strong> was awarded to Sergio del Castillo in 2024.<\/p>\n

The organization of these events depends on the needs identified in the region, ongoing projects, and available resources. Upcoming events are announced on this page once the information has been confirmed.<\/p>\n

The conference will bring together researchers, students, protected-area managers, and regional stakeholders working on biodiversity research and conservation in the Caribbean. It will include a dedicated symposium on invasive alien mammals in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n

Caribaea Initiative special symposium and training workshop - <\/strong>Study and management of terrestrial invasive vertebrates in the insular Caribbean<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Caribaea Initiative special symposium and training workshop on the study and management of terrestrial invasive vertebrates in the insular Caribbean, initially scheduled to take place in Guadeloupe on September 22\u201324, 2026, has been cancelled.<\/p>\n

This decision was made in light of the current international context, which continues to create major uncertainties regarding funding opportunities and travel costs.<\/p>\n

The theme of the symposium remains a priority for Caribaea Initiative. It will be integrated into our next international conference, to be held in Guadeloupe from June 15 to 17, 2027, which will include a dedicated symposium on invasive alien mammals in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n
