Elle inclut aussi une multitude d\u2019organismes microscopiques, tels que les parasites, dont l\u2019\u00e9tude n\u2019en est pas moins importante d\u2019un point de vue aussi bien \u00e9cologique qu\u2019\u00e9conomique.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Parmi les nombreux parasites qui peuplent la plan\u00e8te, ceux du genre <em>Nematopsis<\/em> vivent presque exclusivement en milieu marin et ont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement un cycle de vie dit complexe\u00a0: ils ont plusieurs h\u00f4tes successifs au cours de leur vie. Alors que la reproduction a lieu chez un crustac\u00e9, c\u2019est dans un mollusque que le parasite se d\u00e9veloppe, sous forme d\u2019oocystes log\u00e9s dans les tissus.<\/p>\n<p>Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, ces parasites \u00e9taient surtout connus pour infecter des mollusques bivalves comme les hu\u00eetres, moules ou coquilles Saint-Jacques, parfois avec de lourdes cons\u00e9quences pour la p\u00eache. Mais une r\u00e9cente \u00e9tude dirig\u00e9e par Nicole Herbert, l\u2019une des toutes premi\u00e8res \u00e9tudiantes soutenues par l\u2019association lors de sa th\u00e8se et l\u2019actuelle Secr\u00e9taire G\u00e9n\u00e9rale de Caribaea Initiative, r\u00e9v\u00e8le leur pr\u00e9sence chez des gast\u00e9ropodes n\u00e9rites, de petits escargots marins aux coquilles color\u00e9es vivant sur les rochers du littoral.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #e95b2b;\"><strong>Du terrain au laboratoire<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<div id=\"attachment_12248\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12248\" class=\"wp-image-12248 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/15828161888_4554e4db3a_c-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/15828161888_4554e4db3a_c-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/15828161888_4554e4db3a_c-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/15828161888_4554e4db3a_c-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/15828161888_4554e4db3a_c-272x182.jpg 272w, https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/15828161888_4554e4db3a_c.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-12248\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nerita versicolor \u00a9 James St. John &#8211; CC BY 2.0<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Lors de cette \u00e9tude, des escargots marins de deux esp\u00e8ces de n\u00e9rites (<em>Nerita peloronta<\/em> et <em>Nerita versicolor<\/em>) ont \u00e9t\u00e9 collect\u00e9s sur les c\u00f4tes de Saint-Kitts. Les animaux ont \u00e9t\u00e9 diss\u00e9qu\u00e9s en laboratoire afin d\u2019examiner leurs tissus au microscope, \u00e0 la recherche de signes d\u2019infection par des <em>Nematopsis<\/em>. Des analyses histologiques (coupes de tissus color\u00e9es) ont permis de visualiser la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019oocystes \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur des cellules de l\u2019h\u00f4te.<\/p>\n<p>Les chercheurs ont \u00e9galement extrait l\u2019ADN des tissus infect\u00e9s afin de confirmer l\u2019identit\u00e9 du parasite gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des analyses mol\u00e9culaires. Pour cela, ils ont con\u00e7u de nouveaux outils g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques (amorces sp\u00e9cifiques) permettant de cibler l\u2019ADN de ces parasites.<\/p>\n<p>Enfin, les s\u00e9quences obtenues ont \u00e9t\u00e9 compar\u00e9es \u00e0 celles d\u2019autres <em>Nematopsis<\/em> trouv\u00e9s chez des coquilles Saint-Jacques en Argentine, en \u00c9cosse et en Floride, ce qui a permis de pr\u00e9ciser leur position dans l\u2019arbre phylog\u00e9n\u00e9tique du groupe.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #e95b2b;\"><strong>Un h\u00f4te inattendu<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>En examinant les 127 n\u00e9rites collect\u00e9es des deux esp\u00e8ces, les chercheurs ont d\u00e9couvert que 78.6% des individus de l\u2019esp\u00e8ce <em>N. peloronta<\/em>, et 100 % de ceux de l\u2019esp\u00e8ce<em> N. versicolor <\/em>\u00e9taient porteurs de <em>Nematopsis<\/em>. D\u2019autres escargots marins collect\u00e9s au m\u00eame endroit, appartenant \u00e0 quatre esp\u00e8ces diff\u00e9rentes, \u00e9taient quant \u00e0 eux indemnes. Ce r\u00e9sultat sugg\u00e8re que les n\u00e9rites repr\u00e9sentent peut-\u00eatre une exception parmi les gast\u00e9ropodes, constituant le seul groupe d\u2019escargots marins capable d\u2019h\u00e9berger ce parasite g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement associ\u00e9 aux bivalves.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #e95b2b;\"><strong>Un impact \u00e9cologique et \u00e9conomique<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p>Si les n\u00e9rites ne repr\u00e9sentent pas une ressource pour les p\u00eacheries carib\u00e9ennes, ils jouent n\u00e9anmoins un r\u00f4le dans le fonctionnement des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes tropicaux. De plus, leur infection par <em>Nematopsis<\/em> montre que ces parasites sont susceptibles d\u2019adopter des h\u00f4tes jusque-l\u00e0 non connus, ce qui soul\u00e8ve la question de leur pr\u00e9sence chez d\u2019autres mollusques de la r\u00e9gion, en particulier chez des esp\u00e8ces comme le lambi (<em>Strombus gigas<\/em>) ou le burgot (<em>Cittarium pica<\/em>), qui ont une importance \u00e9conomique majeure. De plus, de nombreux <em>Nematopsis<\/em> ont pour h\u00f4te d\u00e9finitif des crustac\u00e9s d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat \u00e9conomique.
