Comme la plupart des colombid\u00e9s, l\u2019oiseau est capable de parcourir de longues distances en vol, et participe donc \u00e0 la diss\u00e9mination des graines gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son r\u00e9gime alimentaire frugivore. Bien qu\u2019ayant \u00e0 l\u2019heure actuelle une r\u00e9partition plut\u00f4t large, l\u2019esp\u00e8ce est soumise \u00e0 diverses menaces responsables d\u2019un d\u00e9clin av\u00e9r\u00e9 dans certaines zones au cours des derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. En plus de la perte ou de la fragmentation de son habitat, le pigeon \u00e0 cou rouge subit en effet une importante pression li\u00e9e \u00e0 la chasse, qui pourrait \u00e0 terme, sans aucun plan de gestion adapt\u00e9, mettre l\u2019esp\u00e8ce en p\u00e9ril. <\/strong> <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Pour mieux comprendre et anticiper les risques qui p\u00e8sent sur l\u2019esp\u00e8ce, une \u00e9quipe de chercheurs s\u2019est r\u00e9cemment pench\u00e9e sur les caract\u00e9ristiques g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques de l\u2019esp\u00e8ce dans les Cara\u00efbes. La diversit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9tique constitue un param\u00e8tre important pour la persistance des populations sauvages, puisqu\u2019elle est garante d\u2019une bonne capacit\u00e9 d\u2019adaptation de ces populations face aux modifications de leur environnement. \u00c9tudier les caract\u00e9ristiques g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques d\u2019une esp\u00e8ce permet \u00e9galement de mieux en comprendre la structure, et notamment d\u2019en d\u00e9finir les \u00e9ventuelles sous-unit\u00e9s (sous-esp\u00e8ces, populations) et leur r\u00e9partition g\u00e9ographique.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-5701 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/P1020344-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/P1020344-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/P1020344-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/P1020344-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/P1020344-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/P1020344-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/P1020344-958x639.jpg 958w, https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/P1020344-800x534.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/P1020344-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.caribaea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/P1020344-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Christopher Cambrone et son \u00e9quipe ont analys\u00e9 des \u00e9chantillons d\u2019ADN de pigeons \u00e0 cou rouge issus de quatre \u00eeles diff\u00e9rentes\u00a0: Porto-Rico, la Guadeloupe, la Martinique et la Barbade. En comparant les caract\u00e9ristiques \u00a0\u00a0 g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques de 128 individus, ils ont mis en \u00e9vidence un clivage entre les pigeons de la Barbade, qui pr\u00e9sentent une faible diversit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9tique, et ceux des autres \u00eeles, qui montrent entre eux de fortes similitudes g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques.<\/p>\n<p>Les caract\u00e9ristiques g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques des individus de la Barbade concordent avec l\u2019histoire de l\u2019esp\u00e8ce sur cette \u00eele. Absents \u00e0 l\u2019origine, les pigeons qui s\u2019y trouvent actuellement sont les descendants d\u2019un petit nombre d\u2019animaux \u00e9chapp\u00e9s de voli\u00e8res il y a une centaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es. La ressemblance g\u00e9n\u00e9tique des individus des autres \u00eeles, quant \u00e0 elle, sugg\u00e8re que les pigeons qui s\u2019y trouvent ne forment qu\u2019une seule et m\u00eame vaste population.<\/p>\n<p>Ces r\u00e9sultats sont utiles pour d\u00e9terminer des mesures de conservation de l&rsquo;esp\u00e8ce efficaces. Squamosa<\/em>. Ces recherches et sa th\u00e8se sont co-financ\u00e9es par Caribaea initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Christopher a obtenu sa licence de biologie et son master sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 en \u00e9cologie comportementale \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Bourgogne Franche-Comt\u00e9 (Dijon) en terminant major de sa promotion.
